Coelacanth specimens and tissue samples used in the present study

All the coelacanth specimens used in this study were accidentally caught by local fishermen and provided later from the local authorities as shown below in accordance with the regulation under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. Latimeria chalumnae, TCC041-004, TCC025 and S2, were transferred from Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute to Tokyo Institute of Technology under Memorandum of Understanding (M.O.U.) between the two institutions. Similarly, the Comoran specimen was given from Center National de Documentation et de Recherche Scientifique, Musee National des Comores (CNDRS) to Aquamarine Fukushima, Marine Science Museum. Frozen muscle tissue from the Indonesian coelacanth, Latimeria menadoensis was provided from Sam Ratulangi University to the University of Tokyo under the Cooperative Research Agreement between the two universities.
